About Me
Hello, I’m James
I am a psychotherapist with training in somatic therapy and mindfulness, supporting people who feel anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves to develop greater calm, clarity and emotional balance.
My approach to psychotherapy recognises that our experiences are held not only in the mind, but also within the body and nervous system. By working with both psychological understanding and embodied awareness, therapy can support deeper and more lasting change.
My Path Into This Work
My interest in psychotherapy grew from my own exploration of stress, emotional resilience and the relationship between mind and body.
Earlier in my career I worked in high-performance corporate environments, where pressure, responsibility and constant demands were part of daily life. Although things often looked successful externally, I came to recognise how much tension and stress I was carrying internally.
Over time I discovered that simply understanding stress intellectually was not enough. The body also needed space to process and release what it had been holding.
Through mindfulness practice, somatic work and therapeutic self-inquiry, I experienced first-hand how reconnecting with the body can support profound shifts in emotional wellbeing.
This personal journey eventually led me to train in approaches that integrate both psychological insight and embodied awareness, so that I could support others exploring similar challenges.
My Training
My therapeutic work draws on training in:
Psychotherapy – Centre for Counselling & Psychotherapy Education
Body-Oriented Coaching – The Somatic School
Mindfulness Meditation Teaching – Breathworks
These approaches inform how I work therapeutically, allowing us to explore experience through both psychological understanding and bodily awareness.
Mindfulness helps cultivate a gentle and non-judgmental awareness of thoughts and emotions, while somatic work allows us to explore how stress and emotional experience may be held within the body.
Together they support a therapeutic process that is both reflective and embodied.
How I Work
Psychotherapy offers a space to slow down and explore your inner experience with curiosity and care.
In our work together we may explore:
• patterns in thoughts, emotions and behaviour
• how past experiences continue to shape present life
• how stress and emotions are experienced in the body
• ways to develop greater emotional regulation and resilience
I aim to offer a calm, respectful and collaborative therapeutic relationship, where you can explore whatever feels most important at your own pace.
There is no expectation to arrive with clear answers. Therapy is a space where understanding can unfold gradually.
My Approach to Psychotherapy
At the heart of my work is a simple belief:
Human beings have a natural capacity for healing, balance and resilience.
However, life experiences — particularly stress, pressure or difficult events — can lead us to become disconnected from this natural equilibrium.
Psychotherapy provides a space where we can begin to listen more carefully to what our experience is asking for, allowing the nervous system and emotional life to gradually settle and reorganise.
Over time this often leads to a deeper sense of ease, self-understanding and connection.
Beginning Therapy
Starting therapy can feel like a significant step.
If you are curious about whether this approach may support you, I offer a free 20-minute consultation where we can briefly discuss what brings you to therapy and explore whether working together feels like a good fit.
There is no pressure to continue — simply an opportunity to connect.
